Comparison of Academic Result in English Essay Writing of Mathayom 2 Sudents at The Demonstration School of Ramkamhaeng University Between Teaching with 4MAT System and Regular Teaching

Abstract

This experimental research has two objectives: 1) To compare the levels of academic result of Mathayom 2 students in English essay writing after being taught through the 4MAT system with those who were taught the writing through regular teaching method, and 2) To compare the levels of academic result in English essay writing of the Mathayom 2 students before and after learning it through the 4MAT system. The samples of this research were Mathayom 2 students in their second semester of 2016 academic year at the Demonstration School of Ramkhamhaeng University. There was a total of 74 participants forming two groups: one group from M.2/6, and another from M.2/9 and M.2/10. The samples were selected using a cluster random sampling method, and followed by a simple random sampling to assign an experimental group and a control group, the “M.2/9+M.2/10” was the former and the “M.2/6” was the latter. The tools used in this research consisted of 1) a 4MAT lesson plan, 2) a regular lesson plan, and 3) an academic achievement test on English essay writing. Moreover, this research employed the following statistical analysis: means, standard deviations, and dependent samples and independent samples t-tests.

The research showed that 1) The academic result of Mathayom 2 students in English essay writing of the group with 4MAT system was higher than the group with regular teaching method. The statistical difference was at the .01 level. 2) The academic result of Mathayom 2 students in English essay writing after being taught through the 4MAT system was higher than that of before the 4MAT teaching. The statistical difference was at the .01 level.
