Abstract
The main objective of this article is to study the procedure of designing sugar palm fiber wall panel. The procedure of creating this architectural innovation begins with collecting wasted sugar palm fiber. At the very end, the processed product would be considered as a new innovation that will enhance and add value of the original material. The research team had conducted various approaches and experiments in order to innovate the sugar palm fiber wall panel. Firstly, the team had assessed the utility of local resources in Community. Secondly, they also paid their attention to local artisan in the community so that they would be able to apply and blend local knowledge into the new innovation. Thirdly, they had explored the need of the innovating sugar palm fiber into decorative wall panel among local people. Fourthly, the strength of the fiber was required to be tested. Finally, participation among local community towards the designing of the decorative wall panel was considered to be necessary and essential. During this stage, researchers would be able to comprehend the pain point and empathize the specific context of the area. All of these processes would assure and emphasize the important of local people’s participation in Ramdaeng Community. Furthermore, these would help defining the need among the local and their objective at the same time. To achieve the objective the researchers had to make clear understanding, solve the problem and assign the solution concerning about the design of this innovation. How to settle creative solution and develop the prototype of the product seemed essential when testing the product. Not only did the research team adopt the community based participatory approach during the design process, they also gain new artisan knowledge from the local community. According to the above statement, the lesson learned from local community could be divided into 2 parts, which are; 1) the proper design of the wall panel and 2) the selection and development of material. It is expected that the innovation of sugar palm decorating wall panel will be suitable for the technology advancement among local people.
