The Development of Knowledge in Language Competency- Based Curriculum: A Case Study of Tha Nam Model

Abstract

The objectives were to 1) study basic information and build a body of knowledge based on a language competency curriculum, and 2) examine the process of building systemic elements of language. The researcher selected the community of Ban Tha Nam School, located in the Pattani Pilot Innovation Area Project, as a case study. The researcher collected data in the research area
by implementing focus group discussion with administrators, teachers, and voluntary committees of 12 educational institutions and observing the classroom including the context of the educational establishment and the context of the area. The results of the research showed that 1) Ban Tha Nam School community knew language competency-based curriculum and provided basic information for use in building a body of knowledge in a competency-based curriculum in 3 areas: learner
quality; administrative and management processes and the process of teaching and learning that focuses on learners. 2) The language competency curriculum consists of 5 components, namely regulatory competence and the structure of a professional language. Social linguistic competence in occupation cognitive competency at the professional text level competence in the use of tactics to communicate professional meaning and specific competencies that lead to success in professional communication. In addition, the results of the examination of the systematic knowledge building process to support the development of language competency-based curricula, it was found that there were 5 components: knowledge, skills, self-opinion personality traits and motivation, attitude.
