Main Article Content
Abstract
This academic article aims to present teaching guidelines on Chinese reading comprehension
for university students majoring in Chinese language. The activities for teaching and learning Chinese reading comprehension should be designed to suit students’ context and backgrounds. Such learning activities can be carried out individually and collectively. Group activities involve the tasks as follows; 1) “Your Vocabulary, How do you remember it so well?” 2) “See what the picture says” and 3) “Where is this picture?”. Individual activities involve the tasks as follows 1) “Post-reading Exercises” and 2) “Spider Conceptual Map”. All of these activities will help students gradually practice reading comprehension skill, resulting in their improved reading skill. However, teaching activities should include the development of 4 major skills; listening, speaking, reading, and writing, all of which are essential for learning foreign languages.
