Work behavior of supporting staff regarding good governance principles at Prince of Songkla University

Abstract

The purposes of this research are to study opinions on work performance under good governance of supportive personnel at Prince of Songkla University and to compare the work performance under 6 principles which included 1) Rule of Law, 2) Morality, 3) Transparency, 4) Participation, 5) Responsibility, and 6) Effectiveness. The data collected are from supportive personnel based in Pattani, Hatyai, Trang, Phuket, and Suratthani campuses.

The findings show that the overall work performance of the personnel is at a high level. Under the principle of the rule of law, being responsible for their own duty, acting strictly in accordance with the regulations, and providing equity service to customers received the highest number of opinions. In terms of the principle of morality, most opinions were about being honest, showing effort in working, and expressing benevolence to their colleagues. Principles of transparency, recognizing individual rights and duty, forgiving and supporting co-workers, and being accountable for office supplies are mainly discussed. Concerning the principle of participation, being understanding listeners, possessing self-adjustment ability, and solving problems reasonably were the focus of discussion. In relation to the principle of responsibility, the focal points were performing tasks as assigned, reporting work performance regularly, and identifying problems and suggesting solutions. As for the principle of effectiveness, the matters mostly discussed are using resources efficiently, utilizing office supplies effectively, and revising work performance for improvement. The overall comparative result of the personnel’s opinions on work performance under the 6 principles indicated no difference at a significant level of .05 which rejected the hypothesis.
