The Indicators of Musical Aptitude for Thai Secondary School Students in Chiang Mai

Abstract
This research aimed to synthesize and develop behavioral indicators for inventing musical aptitude tests for Thai secondary school students in Chiang Mai. The researcher synthesized basic ideas involving the indicators of musical aptitude from the research reports, documents, and texts related to musical aptitude theories. The indicator development was based on comments and ideas through interviews with experienced music educators at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, Duriyasilp College of Music of Payap University, Chiang Mai College of Dramatic Arts, and secondary schools. In the final stage, the researcher utilized the indicators to testify text preciseness with the experienced music educators at secondary schools by using the Index of Item - Objective Congruence (IOC).
The research presented the following results. There were 20 indicators from the study of aforementioned research reports, documents, and texts. From the indicator development through the interviews with the experienced music educators, some indicators were too difficult and they had unclear explanation in terms of the usage. Consequently, the researcher reduced those to 18 indicators, testified their text preciseness with the experienced music educators, and then found that the IOC was between 0.8-1.0. There were eight indicators of pitch accuracy, four indicators of rhythmic awareness, three indicators of melodic awareness, and four indicators of tone quality.
