Effect of Concentrated Language Encounters Adapted (CLEA) Model of Teaching on Thai Reading Skill of Illiterate Grade 5 Students.

Abstract
The purposes of thisresearch were to 1) study the level of Thai reading skill after learning by concentrated language encounters adapted (CLEA) teaching model 2) study Thai reading skill before and afterlearning by CLEA. The target group of this research, selected by purposive sampling, comprised of 16 Grade 5 illegible students of Bantanyongschool, Yaha District, Yala Province under jurisdiction of the office of Yala Primary Educational Service Area 2. Theresearch carried out in the first semester of the 2015 academic year.The research instruments consisted of 1) lesson plans of using CLEA teaching model 2) a Thai reading skill test. The collected data were analyzed by means, standard deviations, and t-test for dependent samples. The results were shown as follows 1) Thestudents’ Thai reading skill level in a post-test was in the fair level after learning by CLEA 2) The students’ Thai reading skill in a post-test was significantly higher than in a pre-test after learning by CLEA at .01.
