Abstract

This research was to study the effect of usage an external reading book by using task- based instruction on English reading comprehension achievement of Mattayomsuksa 3 students of Prince of Songkla University Demonstration School (Secondary). The specific purposes of this research
were 1) to compare English reading comprehension achievement by using pretest and posttest scores 2) to evaluate students’ satisfaction toward the usage an external reading book by using task- based instruction. The cluster random sampling samples used for the experiment were 37 Mattayomsuksa 3 students of Prince of Songkla University Demonstration School (Secondary). They were enrolling English subject (E 23107) in first semester of 2022 academic year. The research instruments included 1) 5 lesson plans of usage an external reading book by using task-based instruction to develop English reading comprehension achievement 2) pretest and posttest 3) Observation form 4) Interviewing form 5) Students’ satisfaction checklist form. The research results were 1) The students’ English reading comprehension achievement after learning external reading book by using task- based instruction was higher than before learning at .05 level of statistical significance. 2) The students’ satisfaction toward the usage of external reading book by using task-based instruction was at a high level (4.43 of 5-level scales).
