A Study of 5th Grade Students’ Music Reading Skill and Music Performance Skill after Instruction Based on Dalcroze and Kodaly Approaches

Abstract

      The purpose of this research were to compare 5th grade students’ music reading skill and music performance skill before and after an instruction based on Dalcroze and Kodaly approaches, and compare the skills after the instruction with 70% standard. The 5th grade students from Bankhamthaleso School were selected as samples for this study by cluster random sampling. The sample size was 5. The research instruments were 4 lesson plans for 12 hours based on Dalcroze and Kodaly approaches. The results were collected by Music reading test and Music performance test.


The results were 1) After the instruction, students’ music reading skill was higher than before the instruction in level of significance 0.05 and was higher than 70% standard in level of significance 0.05 2) After the instruction, students’ music performance skill was higher than before the instruction in level of significance 0.05 But it was not higher than 70% standard in level of significance 0.05 because some students couldn’t control ring finger and little finger well enough to perform correctly in the right time.
