Development of Good Citizenships for Students in Unrest Area of Southernmost Provinces with Participatory Action Learning
Main Article Content
Abstract
The participatory action learning with action research was conducted in response to an urgent need in providing effective education to develop good citizenship for students in the unrest area of the southernmost provinces of the country. Research procedures started with synthesizing a framework of good citizenship characteristics and subsequently designing learning activities for school implementation. There were two main activities: Booklet Activities and School Projects. Seven schools volunteered to participate in the study. Researchers cooperated with school teachers throughout the process to plan, create, and implement lessons, and to follow up as well as to reflect upon results. Quantitative and qualitative findings consistently showed that students who participated in the activities demonstrated significant gains in conceptualizations of good citizenship and performance characteristics for good citizens. The citizenship characteristic most evident in gains among students was personal responsibility.
