Abstract

Developing reading skills for transformative learning can be achieved by transforming the classroom into the collaborative learning laboratory as well as changing a teacher to “facilitator” who is responsible for promoting the role of students as learners and self-creators of knowledge. Learners will be positioned in the internally and socially confused area that disturbs their mind while stimulates their reflection through cognitive processes in order to exchange mutual learning among learners or between learners and teacher. This process can be done under trustful atmosphere with open-mindedness to exchange knowledge and create new meanings through creative dialogue. This article proposes learning management models and techniques for developing reading skills for transformative learning, namely KWL Plus technique, Jurisprudential Model, and the Six Thinking Hats Technique to be applied for improving reading skills so that learners can achieve meaningful and authentic learning.
