Needs and Guidelines for Promoting The Competency of Guidance Teachers under the Secondary Educational Services Area Office, Kamphang Phet

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the needs and guidelines for promoting the competency of guidance teachers, under the Office of Kamphaeng Phet Secondary Education Service Area. The research was divided into 2 steps. namely, step 1: A study of the needs and necessities of the competency of guidance teachers under the Office of Kamphaeng Phet Secondary Education Service Area by using a questionnaire with 39 guidance teachers in the Office of Kamphaeng Phet Secondary Educational Service Area. It has a confidence value of 0.991 which was derived from an estimation measure with 5-level rating scale, paired response type, on knowledge-based competency, skill-based competency and characteristics-based competency. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation. and prioritization of needs (PNI modified).
Step 2: A study of approaches to enhance the competency of guidance teachers under the Office of Kamphaeng Phet Secondary Education Service Area. The data were obtained from interviews with 4 experts. Such data underwent content analysis.
 
The results showed that 1) the study of the needs and competencies of the guidance counselors under the Kamphaeng Phet Secondary Educational Service Area Office suggested that knowledge competency has the most needs index (PNI modified = 0.170), followed by skills competency (PNI modified = 0.122) and characteristics competency (PNI modified = 0.106), respectively. 2) The results of the study of guidelines for promoting the competency of guidance
teachers under the Kamphaeng Phet Secondary Educational Service Area Office found that the area office should organize a workshop to promote the competency of guidance teachers. Educational institution administrators provide supervision, follow up within the school to provide
advice and monitor the work of the guidance counselors. Guidance teachers should study basic concepts and exchange knowledge with school networks and communities to enhance the performance of guidance teachers.
