The Development of Reading Comprehension Achievement by using Application ReadAWrite with The 5 W1 H Reading Comprehension Technique for Grade 9 Students at Satree Phuket School

Abstract

The three purposes of this research were to : 1) create ready-made dialogues on ReadAWrite Application with integration of the 5 W 1 H technique for reading for main idea of the story entitled “Hen Kea Look” and to evaluate the efficiency of the ready-made dialogues according to 80/80 efficiency index, 2) compare the reading comprehension achievement of Mathayomsuksa 3 students of Satree Phuket School before and after using the ready-made dialogues on ReadAWrite Application with integration of the 5 W 1 H technique and 3) to study the students’ satisfaction with the ready-made dialogues on ReadAWrite Application with integration of the 5 W 1 H technique for reading for main idea of the story entitled “Hen Kea Look”. The research design used is the one-group pretest-posttest design. The target group was 41 Mathayomsuksa 3/3
students of Satree Phuket School. The research instruments were (1) learning management plan based on the ready-made dialogues created on ReadAWrite Application with integration of the 5 W 1 H technique for reading for main idea of the story entitled “Hen Kea Look”, (2) 4 parts of
the ready-made dialogues on ReadAWrite Application, (3) a reading comprehension achievement test with 20 items, each with 4 choices and (4) student satisfaction questionnaire with 10 items on the ready-made dialogues on ReadAWrite Application. The data was analyzed by applying frequency, percentage, average (X), standard deviation (S.D.), T-test and 80/80 efficiency index.
 
The findings were: (1) the efficiency index of the ready-made dialogues of the story entitled “Hen Kea Look” on ReadAWrite Application was 67.2/89, which was lower than the standard 80/80 efficiency index; (2) the reading comprehension achievement of Mathayomsuksa 3 students
of Satree Phuket School after using the ready-made dialogues of the story entitled “Hen Kea Look” on ReadAWrite Application was an average of 14.4 points, an increase of 83% in the reading comprehension achievement, which was statistically significant at level .05 ; (3) the students’ overall satisfaction with learning how to read for main idea with the innovation was at the highest evel
