Siraporn : Developed from performance jewelry to national costume in Miss Grand Thailand Contest

Abstract

          In terms of the aesthetics of performing arts, beautiful clothing is an essential element that contributes to perfection. It consists of Siraporn or a head ornament, Pastraporn or garments and Thanim Pimpaporn or body jewelry.

         Miss Grand Thailand, a contest in which the beauty queen is selected from representatives of each province to participate in activities concerning the dissemination of tourist attractions, art, culture, and goodies of each province. The identity of each province is presented through the national costume based on the Thai cultural identity of all 77 provinces. Thus, Siraporn of Thai performing arts is applied to national costumes.

          This research aimed to study the development of Thai Siraporn which was used as a national costume for the Miss Grand Thailand Contest. It was a qualitative research using a document data collection and a field data collection from a sample of 26 people that consisted of 3 key informants, 3 casual informants, and 20 general informants. Research instruments were a survey form, an observation form, and both structured and unstructured interview forms. Research results were presented by means of a descriptive analysis.

          The research results revealed that Siraporn was used in a variety of performances. Its form and shape had been developed, adapted, and created in order to suit the use of it. Thus, the researcher would like to  study the development, the invention concept, the raw material investigation, the raw material selection of Siraporn, and would like to record all details of it for the benefit of further education for those interested. Moreover, it benefits for adding value to the product in the career way of business based on a cultural foundation that has been adapted to current era in order to remain Siraporn as a heritage of Thai people from now on.
