Post Occupancy Evaluation of 1st Floor Rapee Building, Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to (1) evaluate existing problems and user satisfaction regarding the physical environment on the 1st floor of Rapee Building, (2) investigate the behaviors and spatial needs of the building users, and (3) propose guidelines for space improvement and allocation to align with user activities. The research used a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were collected via questionnaires from 132 students, faculty, and staff. Qualitative data were collected through field surveys, observations, and photographs. Descriptive statistics were used for analysis. Findings showed moderate satisfaction with the physical environment (ðĨĖ = 2.69â3.28, SD = 0.93â1.10). The spaceâs potential as a Co-working space rated highest (ðĨĖ = 3.28, SD = 1.10; the quantity and size of Co-working space rated lowest (ðĨĖ = 2.69, SD = 1.09). Respondents highly supported developing a Co-working space (ðĨĖ = 4.24, SD = 0.80). Desired features included electrical outlets/USB ports/internet (86.4%), movable furniture (81.1%), and rest or quiet zones (75.8%). In conclusion, the proposed design guidelines suggest that the first-floor area of the Rapee Building possesses significant potential for adaptive transformation into a co-working space. However, such transformation necessitates a systematic enhancement of Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), encompassing cleanliness, safety, ventilation, lighting, and effective wayfinding and signage systems. Furthermore, the adoption of a flexible modular design approach and the implementation of structured co-management strategies are essential to support multifunctional use. Collectively, these measures would enable the space to function as a contemporary learning hub and contribute to the sustainable enhancement of the value and usability of the existing building.
