Factors and Indicators in Quality Assessment of Urban Public Spaces According to Perception of People with Special Needs

Abstract

Public spaces that promote learning and quality of life for people with special needs in Bangkok was limited. Those spaces are not only physical spaces, but includes social space and interaction between individuals. This study aims to illustrate indicators quality of urban public spaces according to perception of people with special needs. By reviewing related literature to develop elements and indicators indicate accessibility and usage of public spaces in Bangkok. An assessment form was created and verify by 4 experts, then trying out with 20 people with special needs or caretakers of people with special needs. Data were analyzed by using frequency, mean, standard deviation, IOC, reliability and content analysis. Findings found that there are 4 elements 10 indicator indicated the quality of public spaces in Bangkok according to perception of people with special needs which are 1) usage and activities comprised 3 indicators, 2) access and linkages comprised 2 indicators, 3) sociability comprised 2 indicators, and 4) perception comprised 3 indicators.
