Japanese graphic design is well acknowledged worldwide. It shows specific characteristics and traditional aesthetic, even though Japan was greatly influenced by Western concepts and design methods. This article presents the design methods that use traditional aesthetic for graphic design from modernism and contemporary era. Additionally, this article presents important examples focusing on poster as a main graphic medium in the 20th century in Japanese society.
