Historical learning resources, religion and culture in Chaiyaphum Province in Khmer Era

Abstract

The research objectives were  1)  to study and survey the historical learning resources, religion and culture in Chaiyaphum Province in the ancient Khmer period,  2)  to promote the conservation of the historical learning resources, religion and culture  in  Chaiyaphum Province  in the ancient Khmer period,     3)  to connect the historical learning resources, religion and culture in Chaiyaphum Province in the Khmer period.  It was the qualitative research by searching for primary data through surveying and group discussion from interviewing in the area. 

The research results found that

1.By exploring the historical learning resources, religion and culture in Chaiyaphum Province in the Khmer period, built in the 18th Buddhist century during the reign of King Jayavarman VII of the Khmer Empire, the three sites of Prang Ku were already surveyed and registered as historical sites by the Fine Arts Department as follows: 1Prang Ku in Muean Chaiyaphum District has the characteristics of Khmer art in the Bayon style. The lintel has a face-shaped figure in the center.  Above are images of standing Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. 2. Prang Ku in Ban Thaen District is an ancient site of the Khmer culture, built with laterite. 3. Prang Ku Daeng in Ban Khwao District is an ancient Ku Daeng temple of Khmer art in the 16th century  around 1650-1725 B.E, built with laterite sand and burnt bricks.

2.As for promoting the conservation of historical learning resources, religion and culture  in Chaiyaphum Province in the Khmer period, they are  promoted about academics, that is, the writing of various histories, religion and culture appear in books and websites.  And there are promotions in various traditional merit-making activities every year so that the people are aware of the historical learning sources, religion and culture in the Khmer period.

3.To connect the historical learning resources, religion and culture in Chaiyaphum Province in the Khmer period, activities are used to connect them. They are Buddhist activities, namely, observing the Precepts, making merit and giving alms to monks,  praying and worshiping with flowers, incense sticks and candles to pay homage to the three sites of Prang Ku in order to make the calm mind, the harmonious community, and more mindfulness.
