Abstract

Objectives of this study are (a) to study hermeneutics in which Buddhism is interpreted and explained through scientific frameworks, (๖) to evaluate such hermeneutics, and (c) to recommend guidelines for interpreting and explaining Buddhism with scientific frameworks. The scope of this study covers case studies in Thailand. Findings show that (a) a reactionary hermeneutics and a hermeneutics of corporality are articulated in the case studies; (๖) fallacies and inaccurate understanding of science are involved in the development of the hermeneutics; and (c) it is recommended that future interpretation and explanation of Buddhism through scientific frameworks should be carried out within the framework of complimentarity between Buddhism and science.
