Development of Disaster Response Preparedness Training Curriculum for Parents of Early Childhood in Border Patrol Police Learning Centre, Ban Huay Tong, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province

Abstract

          This research was a research and development study aimed to 1) create a disaster response preparedness training curriculum for parents, 2) measure parents' satisfaction with the training curriculum, and 3) examine the life skills of early childhood before and after the implementation of the Disaster Response Preparedness Training Curriculum for Parents of Early Childhood in Border Patrol Police Learning Centre, Ban Huay Tong, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The tools used included a parents' training curriculum implementation plan, a rating scale for measuring satisfaction, and a life skills observation tool for early childhood. The curriculum implementation plan was divided into 5 levels, 5 topics, and 4 issues per topic. The research target group, following ethical guidelines, consisted of 18 families, totaling 36 individuals, including early childhood children living in the same household as their parents. Data were analyzed using percentages, means, standard deviations, and synthesized with observational data. The results showed that:

1. The disaster response preparedness training curriculum for parents included five topics: (1) Ground Living, (2) Water Sustenance, (3) Wind Play, (4) Fire Awareness, and (5) Learning with People and Chemicals. Each topic was further divided into four subtopics: (1) Awareness of dangers from disasters, (2) Basic assessment and preparation, (3) Self-recovery and asking for help, and (4) Mental recovery after disaster.


2. Parents' overall satisfaction with the curriculum was at the highest (= 4.89, S.D. = 0.31), with the highest satisfaction for Fire Awareness (= 4.94, S.D. = 0.23)


3. The life skills of early childhood cared for by parents who completed the training increased by 41.94% compared to before the curriculum implementation.
