A Development of Calculation Skills and Technical Terms Learning with English Calculation Exercises for Students in Logistics Management Program, Management Science Faculty, Thepsatri Rajabhat University

Abstract

Theobjectivesof thisresearch wereto1)studystudents’ problemsontechnical
termslearningwithEnglishcalculationexercises,2)comparestudents’learningachievements
of technical terms learning with English calculation exercises, and 3) examine students’
satisfactiononthelearningactivitywithEnglishcalculationexercises.Theresearchsamples
were 20 students from logistics management program, in the course of operations
management in2nd semester,academicyear2015.Researchinstruments were1)English
calculationexercises,2) learningachievement test,3)anin-depthinterview,and 4)students’
satisfaction evaluation form. Descriptive statistics used for data analysis were mean,
standard deviation, t-test, and the content analysis. The researchfindings revealed that
problemsontechnical termslearning withEnglishcalculationexercisesforstudentscould
be seeninfirst mostof students did nothave self-confidence to doEnglishcalculation
exercises.Theyalways thought theylacked ofEnglish proficiency.Second, mostof them
did not have essential equipment such as a calculator and dictionary. Third, some of
them did not dotheexercises bythemselves,and did not payattentiontostudy before
and after class. Inaddition, students’ learning achievement in post-test washigher than
pre-test. The comparison of pre-test and post-test by t-test was statistically significant

difference at the .001 level. Moreover, students’ satisfaction on English calculation exercises was at a high level.
