Abstract

      The purpose of this research is to study the patterns and environments of spatial planning within a community handicraft factory, and suggest to develop it as a community learning resource. This research is a qualitative study that specifically sampled rattan furniture and water hyacinth handicrafts, Ban Wang Phai, Ladpattana Subdistrict, Muang District, Maha Sarakham Province. By using the method of interviewing entrepreneurs and workers, surveys, photographings and analysis of spatial planning data in area size, spatial patterns and relationships.

      According to the study, it was found that spatial patterns for the production of rattan furniture divided into 3 categories accordingly the production process: 1) material preparation area, 2) production area, and 3) product display area. There are rattan drying area, steam area, equipment and raw materials storage area, rattan furniture framing area, rattan frame weaving area and and storage area for finished rattan furnitures. All areas are related in order of access, furniture manufacturing process, behavior and accessories. It provides community information and guidelines for developing the environment in a community handicraft factory where can learn the production process of furniture as well.
