Abstract
The study's objectives are as follows: 1) to investigate the concept of design based on universal design, an optimal healing environment, evidence-based health care design, including innovation and technology in rehabilitation; 2) to assess the ability to function in daily life and to investigate how to improve the residential adjustment of stroke patients in real-life situations; and 3) to develop a framework for improving the residential adjustment of stroke patients. Methods of the study included literature reviews and in-depth interviews with experts, including semi-structured interviews with stroke patients and assessments of abilities according to the Barthel Index ADL. The results of the study showed that the concepts studied can be applied to the residential improvement guidelines. There were four important factors in residential improvement: 1) patient abilities in each period; 2) previous residence conditions; 3) economic factors; and 4) caregiver readiness. This study presents a framework for stroke patient accommodation improvement to guide stroke patients and caregivers.
