Perception of Safety Measure, Safety Attitude and Safety Behavior of Construction Workers: A Case Study of Construction Company

Abstract

This research was aimed to: 1) study the level of perception of safety measure, safety attitude, and safety behavior of the construction workers, and 2) study the mediating role of safety attitude in the relationship between the perception of safety measure and safety behavior of the construction workers. One construction company was chosen as a case study and structured interviews were conducted with 67 workers, selected based on a purposive sampling method, from 2 construction projects of such company. Percentage and Mean were used to analyzed the level of perception of safety measure, safety attitude, and safety behavior. Whereas, the basic steps for mediation analysis suggested by Baron and Kenny (1986), together with the bootstrapping for significance testing of the mediation affect, were used to examine the mediating effect of safety attitude on the relationship between the perception of safety measure and safety behavior. The findings revealed that: 1) the perception of safety measure of the samples was very high level, and the safety attitude and behavior were high level, nearly very high, and 2) the safety attitude was complete mediator of the relationship between the perception of safety measure and safety behavior.
