Wayfinding patterns in Phra Arthit Historical Community Area, Bangkok

Abstract

Phra Arthit historical community area is aunique urban area that has several important cultural heritage. There are historical places registered by the cultural heritage department Thailand such as Phra Sumen Fort, Wat Chana Songkhram, Chakrapong Mosque, Pipit Banglumpoo Museum, Santichai Prakan Park, etc. However, Phra Arthit historical community area is not fully utilized as a mixed use urban area as it should be.Theoretically, a historical community area should have a mix of move through and move to pedestrian network accessible to various groups of people.

This article aims to study the wayfinding patterns of two groups people, those who are familiar and unfamiliar with the area. By observing and analyzing patterns of pedestrian traffic during times and days, it is found that those two groups of people more about the area differently most of the area is single use. The results of the study suggest the more distribution of pedestrian attractor area to create a more mix use to attract various groups of people in all areas.
