Abstract

The objectives of this article was to study the usage of English for dissemination of Buddhism and the problems in using English of Thai Buddhist monks and to propose the way to develop English of Thai Buddhist monks for dissemination of Buddhism. This article was done by studying the documents and in-depth interviews with English language experts in dissemination of Buddhism and found the problem of using English of Thai Buddhist monks. Although English language teaching has been taught for long time to monks but it was not successful in using English as expected, because the lack of encouragement for monks to use English to communicate in real life. As a result, the monks lack confidence in their own knowledge. As for the way of developing English of Thai Buddhist monks for the dissemination of Buddhism, it must be promoted in different procedures. Curriculum development for Buddhist monks and teaching development in appropriate way on the side of education by focusing on Buddhist monks to understand the definitions and using language appropriately to the situation, by motivating to learn, practice listening regularly will help them develop language skills in reading, listening and writing even better
