The Leadership in Sangha Governance in ASEAN Community

Abstract

This research paper focuses on;1) studying the principle and importance of leadership for Sangha governance in ASEAN community,2) studying Buddhist doctrine to promote the leadership and 3) presenting the leadership knowledge of Sangha governance in ASEAN community, a case of Thailand and Cambodia. The research methodology was qualitative by collecting documents and deep interviews of target group. The findings were that the leadership of Sangha governance in ASEAN community was found in 6 aspects;1) administrative leaders should not have bias but holding the qualities of a successful businessman, 2) religious studies leaders should contain great efforts and right knowledge, 3) educational welfare leaders should hold well-development and friendly characters, 4) Buddhism propagation leader should hold Buddhist knowledge and Buddha’s way of teaching 5) public assistance leader should have Sappāya and Pāpaṇikadhamma, 6) public welfare leader should follow Brahmavihāra and Buddhist principles of service.
