The Development of Management for the Construction of Housing Estate based on the Local Knowledge of the North – East of Thailand

Abstract

In this research, the qualitative research methodology has been applied. The purposive sample selection method has been utilized to select the key informants. In-depth Interview and Focus Group approaches have been applied to collect the data whilst the Semi-Structured Interview has been used to interview the key informants. The findings indicate that, from past to present, the location is one of the most important elements in constructing the houses. There are differences in term of construction material between past and present for constructing houses. Hence, there are the differences in term of lifetimes of houses constructed in different eras. Moreover, the influenced by Buddhism, the majority religious in Thailand, the nature of Thais is likely to have an extended family, network, depending upon each other known as collectivism. Therefore, the construction of housing estate based on the local knowledge of the north – east (E-san) Thailand is appropriate for residents dwelling that live in the region with special geographical and meteorological in E-san region. In addition, it would be useful to incorporating the findings of this research to enhance the development of management for the construction of housing estate based on the local knowledge of the north – east Thailand. Implications and suggestions are discussed in details.
