The Application of Universal Principles in the Buddhist Missionary Activities of Thai Dhammaduta Monks

Abstract

The research article aims to: 1) study the concepts of universal principles, specifically the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), applicable to Dhammadhuta Bhikkhus; 2) analyze the congruence between these universal principles and Buddhadhamma in the propagation of Buddhism; and 3) propose a model of universal principles for Buddhist propagation by Thai monks. This study is qualitative research conducted through documentary analysis and in-depth interviews with 19 key informants, along with 8 experts who validated the research instruments.

            The findings reveal that the concepts of universal principles (SDGs) are highly congruent with Buddhadhamma. Currently, Dhammadhuta Bhikkhus have effectively adapted their roles to become global spiritual leaders. They have developed Dhamma into a universal language, integrating this profound knowledge with the Fourfold Development (Bhavana 4) to address global crises, strictly guided by the philosophy of leaving no one behind. Finally, the proposed universal model for Buddhist propagation is designated as the “LUIDS Model”, comprises five key dimensions. Living Paradigm. Universal Communication. Integrated Philosophy.
