Abstract

 


This dissertation entitled ‘Buddhist Virtues Cultivation in Children and Youth through Home School’ has three objectives: 1) to study the management theories of education by family, 2) study the cultivation methods of integrated Buddhist virtues with children and youths through Homeschool, and 3) to propose the formation of the cultivation methods of integrated Buddhist virtues with children and youths by means of family management of education. This is a qualitative research done by studying documentaries and interview. In the research, it was found that the Homeschooling theory is of: 1) readiness of parents, learners and place of study, 2) cause of management of education, and 3) philosophy and ideas on family management of education. The methods to cultivate integrated Buddhist virtues to children and youths can be made through homeschool by the help of parents’ role models, wherein it clearly showed that children can be consistent morally trained by their parents since baby. The formation of the cultivation of integrated Buddhist virtues to children and youths by means of family management of education, wherein the knowledge and morality can be grown side by side. It is believed that this technique is somehow derived by nature and their aptitude. Once children learned, they could grow self-reliance, morality and aesthetics in themselves as stated in the Mangala-sutta no. 1 -10. Since children have been physically, behaviorally, mentally and intellectually trained through principles of integrated Buddhist training then they become good member of family and society. Those principles are of four sublime states of mind, seven qualities of good friendship, and seven qualities of convenience, external voice, a critical thought, threefold training, four noble truths, and three types of wisdom.
