A Study of Tibetan Buddhism’s Aṣṭamaṅgala Symbols through an Interpretation in Perspective of Theravāda Buddhism

Abstract

The objectives of this research, a Study of Tibetan Buddhism's Astamangala Symbols through an Interpretation in Perspective of Theravada Buddhism, were 1) to study Tibetan Buddhism’s Astamangala symbols 2) to study Theravada Buddhism’s doctrines relate to Tibetan Buddhism’s Astamangala symbols, and 3) to analyze and interpretation Tibetan Buddhism’s Astamangala symbols through a Theravada Buddhism perspective.
The research indicated that Astamangala symbols (except Endless Knot) are generally equipment in ancient India and Buddha used the properties of these symbols as a tool to teach principles in various topics. when using these meanings to be interpreted through Interpretation in perspective of Theravada Buddhism views then found that the following meanings: Parasol: The effect of dharma practice will preserve the practitioner. Victory banner: wisdom is the cause of enlightment. White right circular motivation conch: the ordination affects dhamma practice easier and 37 doctrine belongs to enlightenment. Endless knot: everything is related with other and can’t find the beginning and the end. Pair of gold fish: Eternity and nobility are those who walk on the path of Cessation of Suffering and enlightenment, the knowledge of Four Noble Truths is the cause of Cessation of Suffering. Lotus: The Crescent can be taught, achieve fair the state of suffering and persecution 7 is the cause of Cessation of Suffering. Vase of treasures: all animals are suffering and death, Compassion is the cause of Cessation of Suffering in the Four Noble Truths is the cause of Cessation of Suffering, Ignorance in the Four Noble Truths is the cause of suffering and the growth in the noble eightfold path cause of Cessation of Suffering. Dharmachakra: The announcement of the true truth from Lord Buddha as the cause of the movement of his religion.
