Buddhist Integration of Vedana Contemplation for Cancer Patient Pain Reliefs

Abstract

This academic article is part of the dissertation entitled ‘The Way of Contemplation on Vedana of the Cancer Patients Having Serious Pains Based on Buddhist Integration’. It is a qualitative research and personal interview. The purpose of this study is to study the approach of confronting the severe pains of cancer patients with Buddhist integration principle of Vedana contemplation. The steps of observing are: 1) learning and right understanding the nature of pains caused by cancer based on Buddhist knowledge and practice by managing such individual pains from cancer, 2) acceptance and adjustment the mental states by being aware of suffering while facing severe pains, 3) applying mindfulness as domain course by observing the pains based on Mindfulness Foundation of Feeling Contemplation, observing the rise and fall of such feeling without any intervention, living with such pains that occurs as they really are, 4) releasing the mind from distractions and thought formations not attaching any physical and mental pains as that such pains are mine.
