The Buddhist Culture on Generosity of The ASEAN Community: A Case Study in Thailand and Cambodia

Abstract

This research entitled “The Buddhist culture on generosity of the ASEAN Community: A case study in Thailand and Cambodia”, it is of three objectives; 1) to study of the Buddhist teaching concerning the generosity appeared in the Buddhist way in Thailand and Cambodia, 2) to study of the Buddhist culture on the generosity of Buddhist in Thailand and Cambodia, and 3) to study the application of the Buddhist culture on the generosity to Thai and Cambodian societies. The research methodology is the qualitative research, it is to study from the documents and an in-dept interview, the field observation to collect data from the texts and the Buddhist academic papers. It found that the Buddhist teachings concerning to the generosity appeared in the Buddhist life way in Thailand and Cambodia are the house-life happiness, the four virtues for lay people, the virtues conducive to benefits in the present house-life happiness, the four sublime states of mind, and the four principles of service. These are the ways of promoting the cultural way of generosity in Buddhism, it said that is the bases on the sympathy to promote the cultural stability which has the morality and ethics in society constantly. It has expressed the generosity that focus on the development of Thai and Cambodian people steadily.
