Emotional Quotient Development for Adolescence in according to Buddhism

Abstract

This article is a part of dissertation titled: Emotional quotient development model for adolescence in according to Buddhism. The objective is to develop the EQ development for adolescence in according to Buddhist Teachings, specifically Phassa, Sati, Yonisomanasikara. The mixed methods of qualitative and experimental design were used in the camp and its follow-ups.


          The participants were 40 senior high school students. They were divided for control and experimental group (20 for each), depending on their willingness. The research instruments were: 1) the EQ test and 2) the 3 sets of EQ training, composed of 14 activities in relations to Phassa, Sati, Yonisomanasikara.


The research found that: the experimental group had higher scores of EQ test in all the three categories: feelings, thoughts, and behavior with statistical significance. Post-test and the first follow up were significantly higher than Pre-test. While the second follow up is reduced.  


          The holistic approach of EQ development for adolescence titled: Phassa, Sati, Yonisomanasikara is resulted the experimental group to realize the “knowing, awaring, contemplating wholesome deeds”. This leads to: “compact, sharp, in one’s heart and oneself”, which can be applied in daily life.
