Abstract

The study of the “why have to be a good mother” concept in Theravada Buddhism found that the considering the actions of the woman who was the mother, we can divide the two groups: (1) the mother as a model of good conduct which was the basis of the good life (Kusalamola) called“archetype of goodness” (2) mothers who behave badly which comes from a basis of the badly life (Akusalamola) called “archetype of badness”.In an archetype of goodness, Mother should have an ethic that is (1) the code of ethics of the creator (Phrahamawiharathamma) (2) the code of ethics of worthy of worship (thewathamma) (3) the code of ethics of good friend who was a teacher of the word (4) the code of ethics of action (kusalakammapatha/karma) (5) the code of duty in all six directions. All included in the “threefold” (Tisikkha). The ethics of motherhood be related with the Katanyukatavethi (Gratefulness) in form of “Moral action” that is to say the mother who was the “bupphakari” (benefactor) while son who was the “Katanyukatavethi”two acting together. As the two ropes was spin into spiral. Buddhism says a key reason for gratitude of the mother is the mother has obligation. However, the moral action of the parties shall behaved on ethical principle of “Vigilance (Appamatha)” is important.
