Potential Development of Medicinal Plants for Elderly Healthcare

Abstract
This participatory action research article aimed to determine the potentials of medicinal plants in the area of Bun Rueang subdistrict, Chiang Khong district, Chiang Rai province and to develop an innovative healthcare system that utilizes medicinal plants for the elderly healthcare. The data collection was undertaken via the survey of the general environment area and affective medicinal plants. Next, the data was used to analyze the opportunities and guidelines of self-reliance healthcare development for elderly by focus group discussion. The results showered that there were 18 species, outs of 142 species of medicinal plants, which have useful medicinal properties for the elderly healthcare. This body of knowledge included with the strain selection, breeding and propagation, appropriated environment and soil selection, maintenance, pest prevention, harvest, herbal productive form and the herbal elderly healthcare description based on modern Thai traditional medicine procedures.
