Abstract

This study aims to study problems and physical-environmental, social-cultural, and policy-economic potentials of Koh Phithak community tourism; to examine and analyze the residents’ opinion on solutions through application of community action planning (CAP) and community health impact assessment (CHIA); and to promote a public participation process in planning and realizing a community plan at the policy level with the local government and other relevant agencies. The study area is Koh Phithak community, located at Moo 14, Bang Nam Chuet sub-district, Lang Suan district, Chumphon province, Thailand. The sample group consisted of 50 residents living in Koh Phithak community. The sampling method was accidental sampling. The data collection was done by using research tools such as geo-social map, in-depth interview, and questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The results of this study can be summarized into a “Community Plan”, 10 “Development Strategy Plans”, and “Action Plans” consisting of 17 development projects and 77 development guidelines. The goal of community development is the “Livable Community and Sustainable Tourism”, as well as organizing activities to push into practical implementation.
