Development and Psychometric Evaluation of Public-mindedness Inventory in Senior High School Students in Bangkok

Abstract

The objectives were to develop and validate psychometric properties of rating and situational public-mindedness inventory in senior high school students in Bangkok. A total of 479 participants, studying in school from the secondary educational service area in Bangkok, were divided into 2 groups. Firstly, the 60 participants were randomized to develop and select qualified items. Secondly, the 419 participants were randomized to validate psychometric properties of inventory. The rating and situational public-mindedness inventory developed by the researcher was used for data collection. The content validity, corrected item-total correlation, internal consistency and parallel-forms reliability were assessed. The results showed that IOC ranging from 0.67 to 1.00 and 0.67 to 1.00, CITC ranging from 0.30 to 0.62 and 0.33 to 0.74, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient valuing 0.92 and 0.93 were found in public-mindedness inventory rating and situational version, respectively. Furthermore, there was significantly positive correlation between rating and situational public-mindedness inventory at 0.01 level. These results can be assured as a valid and reliable measurements, which can be used for gathering data on public-mindedness in students in future research.
