Knowledge Management for Upgrading on Household Accounting Ban Prue Rung Community, Chuea Phloeng Subdistrict, Prasat District, Surin Province

Abstract

The objectives of this participatory action research (1) to investigate household accounting of residents in Ban Prue Rung Community and (2) to organize a body of knowledge on household accounting for Ban Prue Rung Community. The informants of the study were residents from 60 households in Ban Prue Rung Community, Chueploeng Sub-district, Prasat District, Surin Province. The data of the study were collected through community forum and in-depth interview. The results revealed that the majority of the participants earned their living from rice farming. Moreover, it was found that the participants did not make household budget because they had insufficient knowledge about it. However, after a knowledge transfer on household accounting was provided, the participants’ level of perception on household accounting significantly improved. That 39 out of 60 sample households (65%) could do household accounting correctly, while 10 households (17%) took up keeping household budget but with mistakes such as not showing the balance or putting figures in the wrong column. 11 households (18%) were found to have failed to keep household accounts due to illiteracy. The participants realized the benefits of creating a household account as it makes them see their household income and expenses clearly. The participants achieved financial discipline and started their financial plan higher.
