“Keyhole garden” a Local Innovation through Community Participatory Approach: A Case Study of Yangnueng Subdistrict Municipality, Sarapee Distrct, Chiang Mai Province

Abstract
This case study takes place in Yangnueng subdistrict municipality, Sarapee district, Chiang Mai province to create a local innovation through community participatory approach. The purposes of this research are to study community background, innovative approach and to create innovations in value addition driven by community participation.
According to community requirement, the innovation that can lessen community problems should involve garbage, agricultural chemicals usage and dried Dipterocarpus leaves. “Keyhole Garden” was an innovation that fulfills community needs and thirty representatives of “Keyhole Garden” were demonstrated and constructed at Yangnueng subdistrict municipality. From the workshop, all community stakeholders participated in preparation and implementation activities, paving the way to develop sustainable agriculture in the community. During the demonstration, 60% of participants joined or practiced more than 50% of the demo period. Follow-up tracking and in-depth inquiries of the “Keyhole Garden” by their own and following the pattern of the process were 73.33% and 43.33%, respectively. In additions, there are groups of participants in Moo 3 Yangnueng subdistrict municipality, following the pattern of the process. Application of Effective Microorganisms (EM) into “Keyhole Garden” showed a higher decomposition of organic matter than others. This process signifies authentic innovation from community participatory approach.
