Protection of Local Wisdom Under Globalization Case Study: Making Traditional Vegetable Oil Lantern of Pong Yang Kok Community, Hang Chat District, Lampang Province

Abstract

This qualitative research on the protection of local wisdom under globalization, a case study of making traditional vegetable oil lantern of Pong Yang Kok community Hang Chat district, Lampang province were  1) to study the situation concerning the protection of local wisdom as roots of the community 2) to study the adjustment of the local wisdom of making traditional vegetable oil lantern in order to examine how the community protects or adapts their local wisdom under globalization. The participants in this study were members of the community enterprise groups who make traditional vegetable oil lantern in Pong Yang Kok community, Hang Chat district, Lampang province. The data were collected by using multiple methods: analysis of research papers, interviews, focus group discussion, and observation.  The data were analyzed using descriptive and content analyses. The findings of this study were as follows: the situation concerning the protection of the local wisdom was related to changes caused by factors external and internal to the communities which affect the adaptation of the local wisdom by creating a sense of "antiquities" through "legends".
