Effects of using video media of prevention and control of food and waterborne diseases on learning outcomes and satisfaction of Health Promotion students.

Abstract

Nowadays, video media has played a very important role in education. The present research was conducted in order to study effects of using video media on prevention and control of food and waterborne diseases on academic achievement and satisfaction of the target group, 26 Bachelor of Science (Health Promotion) students, who enrolling in a disease prevention and control course. Using ADDIE Model as a teaching model development process for video media production. The research instruments included 1) Video media on prevention and control of food and waterborne diseases, 2) Knowledge tests before and after learning through video media, 3) Assignment to apply knowledge to health promotion work 4) Video media satisfaction assessment form. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics consisted of mean, standard deviation, frequency, percentage, Paired t-test statistics and McNemar's test statistic at 0.05 significance level. The results showed that the participants’ knowledge scores on prevention and control of food and waterborne diseases increased after completing the program (p<0.05). The score level for applying knowledge to health promotion work is good and the satisfaction with video media was the highest level. This video media can be used as teaching materials in the classroom to enhance learners' understanding of the prevention and control of food and waterborne diseases.
