Language Attitude of Thai Adolescents towards Central Thai and Northeastern Thai Speakers

This article aims to study Thai adolescents’ attitude towards Central Thai and Northeastern Thai speakers. The samples were 30 first-year students who were studying in the faculty of Liberal Arts, Thammasat University in equal numbers: 15 males and 15 females. The attitudes were collected by matched-guise technique. The result revealed that the informants had average attitudes towards Central Thai and Northeastern Thai speakers. Considering various aspects, they perceived Central Thai speakers as having better qualities than Northeastern Thai speakers in terms of knowledge and social status. However, Northeastern Thai speakers were perceived as being better than Central Thai speakers in ethics.
