Learner Development through Project-based Learning: A Case Study of the Management of a Comedy Play “Lamdee”

Abstract

The objective of this research was to develop learning outcomes related to strategies for creating humor and the concepts of the comedy play "Lamdee" through the creative process of stage performance. The research process was divided into three stages: 1) pre-project stage, which involved studying the play, the context of Thai society, and analyzing the issues arising from lecture-based teaching; 2) project execution stage, which included introducing project-based learning methods, allowing students to choose roles they were interested in for the creative process of staging a play, and carrying out the creative performance process, this stage was divided into several departments, including acting, stage direction, set design, makeup and costumes, lighting and sound techniques, and public relations; and 3) post-project evaluation stage, which involved conducting tests and group discussions. The research findings indicated that studying the comedy play through project-based learning led to a better understanding of humor creation strategies and the play’s concepts compared to lecture-based learning. Students were able to answer questions and explain accurately, which aligned with the results from group discussions, where students reflected that learning through the creative process of staging a play helped them clearly understand humor creation strategies and the play’s concepts.
