บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาพลวัตของสมดุลระหว่างฝ่ายสนับสนุนและฝ่ายต่อต้านสหภาพยุโรปในรัฐสภายุโรป ผ่านความแตกต่างของพัฒนาการซึ่งเป็นพื้นฐานของการเลือกตั้งแห่งสภายุโรปปี 2014 และ 2019 โดยพยายามประเมินอิทธิพลของพัฒนาการในการเลือกตั้งปี 2014 ได้แก่ วิกฤติเศรษฐกิจและวิกฤติผู้ลี้ภัย ในประเด็นการเป็นสาเหตุของการทะยานขึ้นของฝ่ายประชานิยมต่อต้านสหภาพยุโรป รวมถึงคาดการณ์ความเป็นไปได้ซึ่งความสำคัญของพัฒนาการที่เกิดขึ้นใหม่ในปี 2019 ในประเด็นเดียวกัน
