The Results of Using the Reading Literacy Promotion Program According to the Guidelines of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA)

Abstract

        This research aimed to: 1) compare reading literacy before and after using the Reading Literacy Promotion Program According to the Guidelines of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA); 2) assess the use of the Reading Literacy Promotion Program According to the Guidelines of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). The sample consisted of 35 grade 8 students, obtained by cluster random sampling. The instruments were the Reading Literacy Promotion Program According to the Guidelines of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), a test, and an assessment form for the program. The analysis of data employed the mean, standard deviation, and the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was employed in the hypothesis testing. The results were as follows:


1. The comparison of reading literacy before and after using the Reading LiteracyPromotion Program According to the Guidelines of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) revealed that the reading literacy score after using the program was higher than before using the program, with statistical significance at the .01 level.


2. The results of the assessment of the use of the Reading Literacy Promotion Program According to the Guidelines of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), using the CIPPIEST model, revealed that: the result of the context assessment of the students as a whole was at a high level and that of the administrators and teachers as a whole was at a high level; the result of the input assessment of the administrators and teachers as a whole was at a high level; the result of the process assessment of the students as a whole was at a high level and that of the administrators and teachers as a whole was at a moderate level; the results of the product assessment and the impact assessment of the students as a whole were at a high level and that of the administrators and teachers as a whole was at a high level; the result of the product assessment (effectiveness assessment) of the students as a whole was at a high level and that of the administrators and teachers as a whole was at a high level; the result of the sustainability assessment of the students as a whole was at a high level and that of the administrators and teachers as a whole was at a high level; in terms of transferring (transportability), the result of the overall assessment was at a high level and that of the administrators and teachers as a whole was at a high level.
