Abstract

The objective of this research was to develop and examine the consistency of the structural equation model of the causal factors influencing users’ decision in using the university’s fitness center with the empirical data, and to study the direct and indirect effect of the causal factors influencing users’ decision in using the university’s fitness center. The sample consisted of 938 students who used the fitness center in 10 universities, obtained by multistage random sampling. The instrument was a 5-point rating scale questionnaire. The analysis of data employed the mean, standard deviation and causal factor analysis through a ready-made program in order to examine the consistency of the model with the empirical data. The results were as follows:

1. The model of correlational causal factors influencing the users’decision in using the university’s fitness center was found to be consistent with the empirical data. The Chi-square goodness of fit test value was 103.639 with 51 degrees of freedom, p = 0.000, CFI = 0.991, the Tuker-Lewis Index (TLI) = 0.988, SRMR = 0.032 and RMSEA = 0.033.

2. Regarding the direct and indirect effect of the causal factors influencing users’ decision in using the university’s fitness center, it was found that recognizing problems and needs, searching for information, and assessing alternatives had a positive direct and indirect effect on the users’ decision in using the university’s fitness center, with statistical significance at the .05 level, with effect size of .172, .216 and .629 respectively.
