The Development of Primary School Teachers Training Curriculum for Enhancing Teaching Skill on Mathematical Reasoning Ability through Professional Learning Communities

Abstract

This research was used research and development design. The purposes were to
Develop Primary School Teachers Training Curriculum for Enhancing Teaching Skill on
Mathematical Reasoning Ability through Professional Learning Communities and to study
result of using Training Curriculum. The research method was divided into 3 phases as
follows :
Phase 1 : Studying fundamental data was operated into 3 activities :
1) Investigating documents and related research by documents analysis. 2) Surveying of
problems concern about teaching mathematical primary level and opinions’ mathematical
teachers. 3) Focus Group Discussion. The finding from this study as : Fundamental and
contextual studied was interested in teaching skill, solving problems. Revealed that teachers
was necessary to improve their teaching skills, special in Mathematical Reasoning Ability.
Using technologies and techniques teaching mathematics by teachers’ participant have
increased and involvement on their teaching. The pattern and process of developing were
effective and congruent fit for teachers through current professional learning communities as
a tool to develop teachers.
Phase 2 : Designing and Development Training Curriculum was divided into 4 parts
as drafting curriculum, drafting curriculum evaluation, pilot study and preparing to use curriculum.
The finding from this study as : The drafting curriculum was the most appropriately ( Χ =
4.62). The Training Curriculum afterward corrected and improved in accordance with experts’
evaluation consists of principle, aims, curriculum structure, evaluation and innovation &
materian source.
Phase 3 : Implementation with 20 mathematics teachers in Prathomsuksa 1 and
Prathomsuksa 4 from 10 schools by purposive Sampling. Activities was divided into three
duration. The finding from this study as : The targets group had mean score after training
higher than before training. Designed lesson plan for enhancing teaching skill on
mathematical reasoning ability was more level ( Χ = 4.19). And they had satisfaction in the
Training Curriculum for Enhancing Teaching Skill on Mathematical Reasoning Ability through
Professional Learning Communities were the most level ( Χ = 4.79).
