A Survey describing Problems and Needs for Development of Teaching and Learning Processes based on Research-based Approach of Nakha Witayakhom School, Mahasarakham

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to1) survey the situation, problems, and needs
for development of teaching and learning processes based on Research-based Approach of
Nakha Witayakhom School 2) study the students’ perception about the teaching and
learning process related Research-based Approach. The participants were the 25 school
executives and teachers, 204 students of Nakha Witayakhom School, Wapi Pathum,
Mahasarakham which selected by using the purposive sampling technique. The research
instruments were 1) focus-group interviews for teacher, executive 2) questionnaire related
problems and needs of developing students’ learning processes 3) teacher’s questionnaire
related situation, problems and needs of teaching and learning processes based on
Research-based Approach 4) student’s questionnaire related situation, problems and needs
of teaching and learning processes based on Research-based Approach. The data analysis
was carried out using two different methods. The first was qualitative analysis, which
analyzed content and generated categories and themes for describing teachers view of the
situation in the school. The second was quantitative analysis, which was done by scoring
teachers’ responses to examine the levels of situation, problem, and need and then
reporting these scores with the standard deviation, and mean.
Research findings were as follows; regarding the situation, problem of the school
view from the school executives and teachers, there were a majority in the learners met the
quality standards (31.43%),teaching and learning process including instructional assessment
and evaluation (28.57%), instructor (22.86%) and curriculum (17.14%) respectively.
Additionally, regarding the situation, problems and need in academic (2.75), financial plan
(2.52), human resources (2.83), and general management (2.80) were in the moderate level.
Moreover, the situation, problems and need regarding teaching and learning processes based
on research-based approach, there were in the high level in aspects of situation (3.70) and
needs (4.02) but the problem was in the moderate level (3.25). The priority issues which
teachers need be address were the learning activity integrated with research (47.82%),
learning media and resources (26.96%), teacher professional development (23.48%), the
evaluation and assessment (1.74%). The students’ perception and understanding related
teaching and learning processes based on research-based approach indicated that even
though students acknowledge there were the research based approach in teaching and
learning process, many of them did not evidence their understand in research. The results
showed that the perception of the student about teaching and learning activity base on
research based approach was in high level (4.10) but the students’ understanding regarding
research was in the moderate level (3.45).
