The Development of English Teaching Model for Reading Comprehension Based on Vygotsky’s Theory of Mattayomseuksa 1 students

Abstract

The efficiency in teaching English reading comprehension, teachers need to
provide methods of teaching to develop learners in reading skill and apply the ideas
getting from the reading to solve the problems themselves. The author is articularly
interested in the development of English teaching model for reading comprehension
of Mattayomseuksa 1 students. This research aims. 1) To develop the development of
English teaching model for reading comprehension by Vygotsky’s Theory of
Mattayomseuksa 1 students for effective 75/75 2) To study effectiveness index of the
development of English teaching model for reading comprehension 3) To study the
attitudes of Mattayomseuksa 1 students about learning English Students of the first
sample used in this study were 25 students in Mattayomseuksa 1 on the semester of
academic year 2014 byrandomly selected group (Cluster Random Sampling) at
Nongbuapittayakom School, Nakhonratchasima Province. The instruments were used in
this research were 1) the development of English teaching model with index of
consistency Χ= 4.73 and S.D = 0.36 2) a 30 multiple choice test on reading
comprehension with discriminating power ranging 0.25 - 0.58 and reliability of 0.94 3)
a 30 items questionnaire on student the attitude towards language learning English
with discriminating power ranging 0.33 - 0.71 and reliability of 0.75 . The data were
analyzed using descriptive statistics, percentage, mean and standard deviation.
The results showed that
1. The Development of English Teaching Model for Reading Comprehension
Based on Vygotsky’s Theory of Mattayomseuksa 1 students consists element of the
development of six components: 1) the concept and theory 2) Objectives 3)
instruction include: Step 1: warm up (Introduction the Wh-question), Step 2: Pre-reading,
Step 3 : While-reading , Step 4 : Post-reading, Step 5 : Conclusion, 5) the response 6)
support.
2. The development of English teaching model for reading comprehension
by Vygotsky’s Theory of Mattayomseuksa 1 students was efficiency 78.56/78.00 .
3. The effectiveness index of the development of English teaching model
for reading comprehension was at 0.8222 to learn that the students had increased to
0.8222 or 82.22 percent.
4. The student attitude towards learning English at a high level. ( Χ=2.51
S.D.=0.57)
In summary, The development of English teaching model for reading
comprehension by Vygotsky’s Theory of Mattayomseuksa 1 students was efficiency.
Students have the ability in reading comprehension so it should be applied in the
event of teaching English in the other the next.
